I enjoy wine, going to wine tastings is very enjoyable but it is an experience at the wineries especially in California and Washington State. I am not sure I would be willing to pay per glass without knowing anything about the wines I am paying for.

On this I agree, but they do have a very helpful staff that will answer any and all questions.

Oh, David, this struck me as sad loss of service and ritual. Half, or more, of the fun of wine is the opening and pouring ritual, then tasting and agreeing. This seems so, well, cheap. Wine is something to be savored not dispensed, right?

Besides the dispensers the room has over stuffed leather seats and couches. There is also food service, mostly appetizers. Wine is available by the bottle, stored in shelves all around the store , to drink there or to take out. There is no corkage fee. My guess is the automat serves as a taster to get you to purchase the wine of your choice. Yes, it is a novelty, but on a weekend in season the place is packed.

Ah, alright, if this is a pre-taste before ordering I guess it's a great idea. Not the same as a sample from the waiter presented bottle but quite efficient and time saving I suppose. I could like this idea under those circumstances as long as there is a sommelier to present and explain the wine notes and aging to me.

Sommelier? Hardly, more likely a person with a master's degree in ancient languages who cannot find gainful employment.

It's a fun visit, but will never take the place of a grand wine tour in a vineyard.

I have only gone to one wine tasters cellar and I truly enjoyed it but ir was despensed like this and we were very well informed on suggested types.. they had delighful cheese samples as well. To but wine from dispensers looks cheap to me..

Read your article. They should be next to each other. A pizza and wine automat. Maybe put in a washing machine and dryer so you don't waste your time.
